Decide what is actually shaking

Watch the tachometer, listen to the exhaust, and note whether the engine speed changes. A combustion problem often creates an uneven exhaust beat and misfire data. A worn mount can transmit strong vibration even while RPM and combustion remain steady.

Compare Park or Neutral with Drive, air conditioning on and off, cold and warm operation, and steering load where safe. These changes help define the condition; they do not by themselves prove a failed part.

Check warning signs first

If the malfunction indicator flashes, the vehicle loses power, raw fuel is smelled, or a severe mechanical knock is present, limit driving and diagnose promptly. Check oil pressure and coolant temperature warnings before continuing an idle test.

Ignition, injector operation, unmetered air, fuel pressure, throttle deposits, PCV faults, compression, valve timing, and exhaust restriction can affect idle quality. Engine and transmission mounts, a loaded accessory, exhaust contact, or low commanded idle can affect vibration without an active misfire.

Use scan data and controlled tests. Replacing plugs, coils, injectors, and mounts together hides the original cause and makes the result difficult to verify.

Provide the exact vehicle, mileage, warning lights, codes, fuel level, temperature, gear position, accessory status, and a short video showing the tachometer and sound. Mention recent maintenance or repairs.
